Susunia Pahar

 Susunia Pahar

Susunia Hill is a famous archeological and fossil site. Fossil remains of Asiatic lion, giraffe, hyena and other animal species have been discovered from the surrounding areas. The so called 'oldest' inscription of West Bengal is located here. An ancient carved stone pillar (Narasimha stone) stands at the point where the spring water is coming out of another stone's gargle or curved projecting spout. It is also used as a place for camping and rock climbing.

Susuniya village itself is home to stone carving artisans. Susunia is an important archaeological site in Bankura district, which produces Stone Age tools. [4] It is believed that there was a fort built here earlier by King Chandravarman. There are some 4th century inscriptions, which refer to a place called Pushkarana, which was once the capital of Chandravarman. The modern-day Pakhna is considered to be ancient Pushkaran. It is written in the inscription that- the devotee of 'Chakkaswami' (Lord Vishnu), the son of Raja Simhavarman, the king of Pushkaran, provided the revenue of the village named Raja Chandravarman. Dhoso' for the purpose of worshiping their Lord Vishnu. Near the inscription there is a symbol of 'wheel' or 'chakra' and on the bottom left of the wheel, there is another line written in a script, which is not yet understood, probably the obscure 'Sankhalipi' (conch-shaped script). ) !), as stated by some experts
